1. What Logbook is — and is not
Logbook is a shared registry of vehicle history events recorded by its members and by third-party data sources. Reports are informational: their contents are supplied by member organisations and third-party sources and may be incomplete. Logbook is not a guarantee of a vehicle's condition, title or history, does not make decisions, and does not replace a physical inspection by a qualified person.
2. Recording events
Members record only events their organisation type is permitted to record, truthfully and from their own business records. Entries are append-only: a mistake is corrected by recording a correction, which supersedes the original while leaving it on file. Uploading data on behalf of another organisation, or fabricating events, is grounds for immediate suspension.
3. Looking things up
Every lookup requires a stated purpose and is written to the audit trail before results are returned. Registry access is restricted to legitimate vehicle checks connected to a purchase, sale, policy, loan, import, inspection or investigation. Bulk extraction of registry data, resale of reports, or use of the registry to build a competing dataset is prohibited.
4. Disputes
A person or member who believes an entry is wrong may dispute it. Disputed entries remain visible, flagged as disputed, while the recording organisation reviews them; every report view carries a report number and verification hash so a disputed report can be reproduced exactly.
5. Accounts and security
Sign-in credentials are personal and must not be shared. Organisations are responsible for removing access when staff leave. We may suspend access to protect the registry, its members or the public.
6. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Logbook and DORDLE Ltd are not liable for decisions made in reliance on registry content. The registry is provided as-is for the duration of the proof of concept.
